by Jennifer Doloski, adapted from a work by Harriet Jacobs

She spent the next seven years hiding in plain sight, in the attic space of a shed on her grandmother’s property. Her children having been purchased by their free, white father and given to the care of her grandmother only days after her escape – she alternately joyed and agonized as she listened to them grow up, unaware of her presence. In this play, we hear from “Linda” as she does what she needs to do to survive and persevere so she and her children can be free. The work makes for an outstanding duo, with one performer as Linda and the other performer playing multiple characters.
The Big Decision by Mike Noland

And yes, it passes the Bechdel test!
Assignment: Apple by Mike Noland
FF/MF/MM Duo, Humorous Interp
Alex and Taylor, two friends, struggle with a creative assignment to describe an apple in an unconventional way. While Alex is stressed by the lack of clear guidelines, Taylor encourages a free-spirited, out-of-the-box approach. After getting through some distractions, Taylor suggests they make a short film, contrasting their work with the rest of the class's poems and drawings. The pair decides to create a comedic screenplay featuring anthropomorphized fruit, complete with a party scene where apples take center stage. However, their brainstorming hits many snags, not the least of which is they do not have any actual fruit. This chummy and cheeky script highlights the two friends’ contrasting personalities—Alex's need for structure versus Taylor's spontaneous creativity—as they work together to tackle the assignment.

This poor soul turns out to be Anthony, your average malnourished “well boy” who really needs a bath. Needless to say things don’t go as planned. At all. A dark comedy for two character actors ready to get some weird laughs.

Told in the style of self-help seminar where the figurative becomes literal, this piece features an anxious narrator speaking directly to her anxiety. As the narrator works the various ways to soothe anxiety, Anxiety the character fights back—but is ultimately put to bed, if not quite defeated. A fun and surprisingly inspirational comedy.
Rapunzel & Ella’s Magical Hair Salon by Stephanie Christensen
Humorous Interp (with a heart of gold), FF Duo

Ella lived a life of poverty in the big city. But when they find each other, it’s friendship that makes their dreams come true (and not an evil spirit selling gold watches). A touching piece with an ending that will melt the coldest hearts.

A 30 minute play of short scenes that can be easily cut down to fit a variety of dynamics between performers.
The Ultimate Drama by Garlock & Taylor
Ever see the dramatic moment of a play one too many times? This sarcastic and fast-paced satire mocks the overabundance of melodrama in modern playwriting and acting. Many of those dramas you love to hate are roasted in this fiery oven of hilarity.

Or is that part in the script too? As this doomed pair figures out they’ll never escape, watch as panic begins to set in (according to the stage directions). This meta-comedy that has two performers exchanging some of the best rapid-fire dialogue we’ve ever published. Without ever breaking character, this genius script breaks every rule.
New! The Leak by Gavin Barker
Two-Character Duo, Dark Comedy, or a Drama with Laughs

The pair must navigate their rocky friendship in the most stressful (and metaphorical) situation possible: their small boat is sinking. Can they stop bickering in time to save themselves? The best part of the script is the ending, which can be played either as pitch-black comedy or tragic twist… whichever way you choose, it’s a perfect duo.

After a few “dramatic” scenes ripped straight from your favorite fantasy epic, it concludes happily, with Kellum nailing the role of Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. It's absurd at points, but it's easy to follow, has several fun characters, and it hits all the right marks for this kind of silly satire.

Mike, a high school student, decides to experiment with drugs. Thankfully, his adventure is harmless, but does not go exactly as planned. He ends up discovering a few interesting things about his school, including the fact that his seemingly uptight principal is capable of enjoying a good time. THE GR8 TXT MSG WAR by Hank Frederick
Hilarious, and totally unique: performers will have a blast speaking and acting in the language of text messages. A weeknight conversation between two high-schoolers (Girl & Guy), conducted completely over text message. The plot is basic: Girl is mad at guy for stupid joke, guy makes up for it. But with the added bonus of strange text abbreviations, spelled-out smiley faces, and of course some out-there autocorrect mistakes, the conversation becomes a rollercoaster of confusion and melodrama. One of our best new comedies.
The Assistant by Don Trickseven
Ripped from the headlines, this duo follows one night that will change the lives of a young married couple, as well as the fate of an entire university. Drew, an up-and-coming assistant basketball coach, comes home to tell his wife Mel that he saw the revered head coach of the team in a compromising position with a female student. Now the two must weigh all the good they have seen the coach do versus what they think they have to do in order to protect the students, and in the process traverse all the unseen fault lines of their own relationship and histories. Maddening, heartbreaking, and moving, this dialogue will have everyone in the audience riveted.
STOP! by Ray Nesrym

In a scene all-to-familiar to many children and parents, this mother is determined to teach her child exactly how to drive safe, even if it means they both have a nervous breakdown in the process. A cringe-worthy laugh-fest that will have contestants and judges alike nodding their heads in recognition.
