Birthday Candles by K.R. Schneider

Twins Samantha and Sawyer celebrate their twenty-third birthday reminiscing on past experiences together: silly arguments, broken arms, first kisses, etc. As the girls reminisce, the story builds to an emotional revelation that Sawyer was killed in a car accident when they were 19, and Samantha has kept the memory of her sister alive with their imagined chats. A funny but poignant piece ready to wow in break rounds.

Fairytale Feud by Clara Holz and Lily Heckert
FF Duo, Humorous Interp

Whose fairytale is this, anyway?! Snow White, a classic beauty who is a bit self-centered, or the rude but bold Rose Red? Depends on who you ask. In this clever twist on the timeless tale, the two performers play two different narrators, who each tell the story from the perspective of their chosen protagonist. Then, each performer also gets a chance to play their princess as well. This double-duality leads to lots of incidents, arguments, and hilarity as the princesses navigate charming princes and strange dwarves. How will the fairytale end? We’ll have to see which leading lady is willing to go the furthest to live happily ever after.

A.I. Speechbot by Forrest Musselman
FF Duo, MF Duo, Humorous Interp

Two ambitious speech coaches create the first A.I. Speechbot, aiming to deliver 100% perfection every performance.  But the robot kid quickly goes out of control, speeding through pops, transitions, and sound effects faster than the coaches can keep up! It’s not clear whether the machine will even make it to its first round. The piece pokes fun at the typical movements and sounds made by speakers in interp rounds while providing an opportunity for very fast-paced technical character work by talented performers.

D & Me by Steve Dubois
FF Duo, MF Duo, Humorous Interp

Macy is a young woman ready to go out, explore the world, and meet new people. Good thing she has her roommate D to tell her when she’s moving a little too quickly. Well, maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe D is keeping her from doing anything at all… A startling and striking duo about living with depression.

In Plain Sight
by Jennifer Doloski, adapted from a work by Harriet Jacobs
FF Duo, Dramatic Interp

This script follows the true story of Harriet Jacobs, known as Linda Brent in her writings, after she escaped slavery in 1835. She spent the next seven years hiding in plain sight, in the attic space of a shed on her grandmother’s property. Her children having been purchased by their free, white father and given to the care of her grandmother only days after her escape – she alternately joyed and agonized as she listened to them grow up, unaware of her presence. In this play, we hear from “Linda” as she does what she needs to do to survive and persevere so she and her children can be free. The work makes for an outstanding duo, with one performer as Linda and the other performer playing multiple characters.

The Big Decision by Mike Noland
FF Duo, Humorous Interp

Shelley is Joy’s best friend, such a good friend that she’s on a first name basis with Joy’s mom and can walk into their house whenever she likes. Shelley is enthusiastic like that, and today she’s got a new grand plan: buy a dog. Problem is she doesn’t know a single thing about dog ownership, and it’s once again up to Joy to talk her out of a scheme. Just like she failed to talk her out of the ice skating incident or the bowling catastrophe… A quick-witted two-character duo with high school best friends who know each other a little too well. And yes, it passes the Bechdel test!

Assignment: Apple by Mike Noland
FF/MF/MM Duo, Humorous Interp

Alex and Taylor, two friends, struggle with a creative assignment to describe an apple in an unconventional way. While Alex is stressed by the lack of clear guidelines, Taylor encourages a free-spirited, out-of-the-box approach. After getting through some distractions, Taylor suggests they make a short film, contrasting their work with the rest of the class's poems and drawings. The pair decides to create a comedic screenplay featuring anthropomorphized fruit, complete with a party scene where apples take center stage. However, their brainstorming hits many snags, not the least of which is they do not have any actual fruit. This chummy and cheeky script highlights the two friends’ contrasting personalities—Alex's need for structure versus Taylor's spontaneous creativity—as they work together to tackle the assignment.

Power Struggle by Robert LaVohn
FF Duo, Humorous Interp

Two young superheroes competing to join the Legion of Heroic Guardians. Muscle Mage can control the movements of people around her. Air Controller has absolute power over the molecules of air. The audition quickly goes sideways when Muscle Mage forces Air Controller to dance, and is in turn silenced in a box of air. When their bickering subsides, a telepathic voice reaches through: Learn to work together or lose your chance to join the Guardians! A superpowered two-person duo with lots of zingers and plenty of opportunities to demonstrate your own powers of performance.

Cassadee and Ketamine Save a Non-Verbal Child From a Well
by Collier Kuhlman
FF Duo, Humorous Interp

Cassadee, the snobbiest 9-year-old alive, is forced to go to a strange country girl named Ketamine’s “party”, but when thirst leads the two down to a well in the middle of a trailer park, trouble unfolds. When they see a person down at the bottom, the girls know they will have to give all they have to save them. This poor soul turns out to be Anthony, your average malnourished “well boy” who really needs a bath. Needless to say things don’t go as planned. At all. A dark comedy for two character actors ready to get some weird laughs.

The Main Character by Kevin J. Burgun
FF Duo, Humorous Interp

Grace narrowly avoids getting hit by a bus... which means she must be the main character of the story! She and her friend Patty (surely, the main character's sidekick) try to figure out what that means: Is Grace invincible? Can she say whatever she wants in class? Can she get revenge on her second grade bully? You'll find out in this rapid-fire duo for two girls... and if you don't, well, there's another bus headed right towards Grace. One of those scripts that's so well-crafted you can hand it to novices, or to experienced performers who have their comedic timing perfected.

Anxiety Versus You by Shawn LaSota
Two-Character Duo or a Charming HI

Do my friends hate me? Will I ever find love? Will my favorite celebrity couple die in a nuclear war tomorrow? Anxiety is like glitter after a toddler’ birthday party: It’s everywhere. Told in the style of self-help seminar where the figurative becomes literal, this piece features an anxious narrator speaking directly to her anxiety. As the narrator works the various ways to soothe anxiety, Anxiety the character fights back—but is ultimately put to bed, if not quite defeated. A fun and surprisingly inspirational comedy.

Rapunzel & Ella’s Magical Hair Salon by Stephanie Christensen
Humorous Interp (with a heart of gold), FF Duo

Rapunzel and (Cinder)ella had difficult lives before they found each other. Rapunzel grew up a wild child in the woods, unaware that movies aren’t real or that shoes go on your feet. Ella lived a life of poverty in the big city. But when they find each other, it’s friendship that makes their dreams come true (and not an evil spirit selling gold watches). A touching piece with an ending that will melt the coldest hearts.

Fortunately, she has her friend Dolores, a wise older woman, to advise her… except Dolores is the biggest troublemaker at her nursing home, setting people’s pants on fires and giving her bridge team performance-enhancing drugs. The zoological heist comes to a wild conclusion as all three characters converge for a wacky action-packed finish. Fun from beginning to end!

Hashtag by Steven DuBois

Backstage at VidCon, Nancy meets her favorite “mental health influencer,” Megan. It quickly becomes apparent that their interaction will be anything but normal, as Nancy begins asking more and more of Megan. A dark, relevant comedy that questions everything about online culture.

New! How Much I Love You by K.R. Schneider

[Two Characters / Two Girls]

They revisit the humor of terrible dates, the birth of Charlotte's first child, pierced ears and sleepaway camp, and arrive at a beautiful conclusion as Charlotte asks Lucy look after her family after she's gone. A heartfelt, heartbreaking duo from the author of last year's hit Birthday Candles.

New! Princess and the P by Steve DuBois

So she asks a witch to ban the pesky letter for good... and the results are preposterous! An absolutely one-of-a-kind comedy that will have performers trying all kinds of new things, such as skipping the letter "p" for whole lines of dialogue! Includes author notes for splitting characters between two actors.

Mother-Daughter Dialogues by Clyde Hendrickson

The best female-female duo script we've seen yet features a lifetime of a tumultuous mother-daughter relationship condensed into its most important moments, including: prom, college, the sex talk(s), marriage, pregnancy, divorce and disease. Filled with classic one-liners and touching, true-to-life moments, this play will be perfect for performers wanting to do an HI with a message or a DI with wit, or two girls looking for a truly entertaining Duo or Duet.

Girl in the Picture by Taylor Shann

When you grow up, you can grow closer to your friends. Sometimes, you can grow away from them. Jodi and Layla, two lifelong friends trying to survive the hell of high school, are in danger of doing just that. Miscommunication, music, instant messaging and a Christmas gift are all clues in this deconstruction of how fragile friendship can be. A 30 minute play of short scenes that can be easily cut down to fit a variety of dynamics between performers.

The Ultimate Drama by Garlock & Taylor

Ever see the dramatic moment of a play one too many times? This sarcastic and fast-paced satire mocks the overabundance of melodrama in modern playwriting and acting. Many of those dramas you love to hate are roasted in this fiery oven of hilarity.

Good Morning, Glory! by Ryan N. Ray

Glory, a rich and snobbish woman who is extremely lazy and loves nothing more than her morning pop tart alongside her bachelor of the day. Juanita, Glory's Spanish housemaid who just happens to be narcoleptic and, unbeknownst to Glory, a prankster. The two clash in unexpected ways, and both are under the other's power more than they anticipate. Great dialogue for your most talented female performers.

Unfunny by Mike Beede

In Unfunny, an eccentric woman named Norma confronts the myth that women are not funny. Her research leads her from the Garden of Eden to Dr. Laura, with many humorous stops in-between. This play is our best bet for female performers looking for that perfect humorous piece.

Locked Away by Martin Aloia

The Emancipation of Mister Tinkles by Clint Snyder
